So recently I’ve been looking at job descriptions for Frontend Developers to see what people are looking to get out of a new hire. After 2 or 3 postings I started feeling very under qualified. Now this feeling isn’t uncommon for me, in fact I often get the feeling I got lucky and found my way into developer positions similar to the character ‘Big head’ in the HBO show Silicon Valley.

Is this a normal thing to feel? Probably. While I should definitely get around to getting more comfortable learning new frameworks, I’m still a developer and I haven’t blown up any websites yet ( at least not into oblivion ). We all have strengths and weaknesses and it’s important to know where they are but not knowing the latest frameworks or libraries doesn’t make us less of a developer.

At the end of the day it’s important to sit back and realize how much we’ve accomplished already rather than dwelling on what we don’t know yet. We’re all our own biggest critics and feeling under qualified only makes me want to work harder.
